1960 Cinelli

1960 Cinelli Model B

This fabulous bike is a Cinelli model B from 1960.

More economical than the Super Corsa (or model “A”), this Cinelli still shows off all of the Italian flair that made Cinelli great.

Originally sold by Ace Cycles in Vancouver B.C., this classic steel rig would have turned heads as it rolled down the street.

Cinelli’s cool fastback lug at the junction of the seat stays and top tube looked sleek.  The flat-top fork crown made the front end of the bike feel and steer just right. Judicious use of chrome plating sparkled in the sunshine and added just the right amount of flash.  The bright red finish was anything but subtle, but I’ll bet it brightened up many grey Vancouver days.

Campagnolo Gran Sport

This Mod. B isn’t really subtle, it still shows off with some of the latest equipment.

Campagnolo Gran Sport drivetrain parts handle the shifting (derailleurs) and spinning duties (hubs), while Magistroni crank arms provide power and the Universal Model 61 brakes brings everything to a solid stop.  A new invention, the all plastic Unicanitor saddle topped the Campagnolo seatpost while the custom fenders kept it all looking good.

Viktor Kapitanov won the Soviet Union’s first Olympic gold medal in cycling aboard a Model B.  Of course, everyone always lusts after the top-of-the-line gear, and upon winning the road race at the 1960 Rome Olympics, Cino Cinelli rewarded Viktor by replacing the Mod. B with his very own Super Corsa.
