The clerk asks What features are you looking for in a bike?

The prospective rider responds:

I’d like a powerful motor. A battery that is big enough for me not to have range anxiety (this isn’t what they say, but it is what they mean).

It has to be a light bike so I can lift it onto a car rack. 50 pounds or less.

I’d like a low-step frame style.

It has to have fenders, lights, a kickstand, and a rack so I can carry some stuff.

It has to be cheap.

The clerk responds:

If you’ve been looking around for an Ebike, you may have noticed that your choices are a little weird. For $1500 or less you have probably come across some fairly unusual looking “bikes” primarily made by companies whose heritage stretches all the way back to their Kickstarter campaign last April.
You’ve probably found “bikes” that sport motors but not much else. There might be a “Shamono” derailleur. Brakes that wouldn’t stop a child’s bike much less you and their 75 pounds of Ebike. Tires that look appropriate for a wheelbarrow but not a bicycle. Maybe some “features” like a luggage rack that doesn’t accommodate bicycle bags and one-off parts that can’t be replaced should they break.
…And all of these bikes require that you to put them together yourself…
