2018 333 Fab Air Land Sea

333 Fab Air, Land & Sea

Here’s a cool do-everything bike from Seattle bike builder Max Kullaway.

Max calls his Air Land & Sea creation a “Cascadian Rambler”, which is a variation on the whole gravel bike theme. The Pacific Northwest nod has got to be the titanium (rust-proof) tubing and the fender mounts, but we’ll take Max’s collaboration with Seattle cycling Icon Bill Davidson as an answer too.
Would you believe that this is a ‘stock” bike? It’s part of a limited edition run of all-road/off-road titanium bicycles. They’re decorated with some great custom graphics by Kyler Martz and the blue/grey/green paint is definitely Pacific Northwest inspired color.

The concept for these bikes must come from the current trend to make go anywhere bikes that don’t do anything perfectly but can do every type of ride reasonably well. Need a label? How about a cyclocross bike with rack mounts. Maybe a racing bike with fat tires. A mountain bike with skinny ones? It’s a light bike with no suspension or dropper post, and a sporty bike that’ll carry all of your gear.

If you would be willing to ride this bike for 8 to 12 hours straight, we’d be willing to call it a bike for randonneurs.

One really neat touch is that it apparently comes with two forks. Switch between a front rack loaded set-up with a steel touring fork to a gravel racer with the carbon fork.

My favorite design elements on this bike are the exposed cable guides and the shifter cable that is encased in housing all of the way from the handlebar to the rear derailleur. Too many high-end bikes have hidden away the brake hoses and shifter lines these days. A do-everything bike like this one is going to need adjustments and maintenance every so often… Why make repair difficult and time consuming for the sake of minor aerodynamic gains?

We hadn’t heard of Max Kullaway until recently, but he apparently has quite a pedigree in the custom titanium bicycle world. Before his most recent collaboration with Bill Davidson, Max’s handiwork could be experienced aboard Hampsten and Seven branded bicycles.
