1979 Guerciotti

1979 Guerciotti

This gigantic Guerciotti road bike originally belonged to our tall friend Bill Keane. Some of you may remember a bike shop called The Bike Pedaler located in Poulsbo. Bill ran that shop from the late 1970’s until the mid ‘90’s. Sometime along the way Bill built up this beauty for himself.

So this Guerciotti is constructed of Columbus SL frame tubing, making it a tall frame that probably had a sporty but not overly stiff ride (we wouldn’t know, it’s too big for any of us to try). Over the years this bike has had all of the good stuff on it. The original component group was all Campagnolo Nuovo Record stuff, but later came the Dura-Ace EX (7200) group with features like a rear cassette hub and finally some Super Record upgrades.

Like a lot of racing bikes from this era, there are little upgrades here and there. The stock plastic derailleur pulleys often cracked, so gear junkies like Bill often replaced those parts with Bullseye brand aluminum pulleys that featured sealed bearings and anodized colors in addition to their superior durability. There are Phil Wood pedals on this bike which were a nice set of pedals that offered smooth bearings, a touring-shoe friendly solid platform and built-in reflectors.

Now, we don’t know if the saddle can be called an “upgrade”. It’s an all-plastic copy of the Cinelli Unicanitor, with the model (or brand) name “Welcome” embossed on it’s sides. Looks pretty hard to us.
