It has the wonderful ride quality of Reynolds 531 steel tubing with the old quill stem and Cinelli bars. It has the simplicity of rim brakes and the sparkle of polished aluminum parts.
But these parts work with precision. There’s a Velo-Orange crankset with compact-sized 36/48T chainrings mated to a Campy Centaur 11 rear derailleur and an 11-32 cassette. Velo-Orange long-reach caliper brakes that can clear 35mm-wide tires.You get new Campagnolo Centaur shift levers, cables and chain. Fresh Mercury wheels with Vittoria tires.
The bike looks better than new because it is. We shipped this frame back to Derby, England in August. Back into probably the same room where it was finished in 1984, the Mercian received fresh decals and new paint.
Nothing retro here but the style. Everything works like new because it is new. 54cm frame, 55cm top tube, 9cm Cinelli 1A stem, 42cm Cinelli model 64 bars, 170mm cranks with 36 x 48t chainrings, 11-32 cassette, a sealed cartridge bottom bracket, a new Campy Record headset and a current Campagnolo drivetrain.
