Jimmy was a great bike rider, an interesting local character, and a good friend.

Jimmy achieved most of his success as a bike racer on the local level, and in the mid 6o’s, he won a lot.  Jimmy was the state champion on the track and on the road, and he won as both a junior and as a senior level rider.

Our friend Jeff ended up with many of the mementos from Jimmy’s bike racing career, and the museum has numerous trophies, bikes, and even his helmet on display.

As a soldier during the Viet Nam war, Jimmy actually spent his tours of duty on guard duty in Korea.  He had many great stories from his time in Seoul, fighting North Korean border incursions, boredom, and the weather.

In more recent years, Jimmy could be seen riding his bike all around the island.  Regardless of the temperature, Jimmy wore shorts and flip-flops.  He was usually shirtless, and had a striking look with his white beard, bike racer legs and big belly.

Local cyclists would be confused and slightly humiliated, as they swore that Santa Claus had just dropped them going up Erickson Avenue…
