The Six Day Bicycle Races

The museum that is Classic Cycle has a couple companion pieces.  There is a book, a documentary, and a documentary jazz soundtrack that breathes life into the bicycles and pictures that adorn our walls.  Jeff catalogued the people, places and things that made up bicycle racing in the U.S. prior to 1950.  Peter Nye wrote the history down in a wonderful book, and with the help of filmmaker Mark Tyson, they made a supremely entertaining documentary.

The coffee table book is a great history lesson and a fun read.  It brings you over the arc of the sport from its beginnings in the 1800’s to its slow demise in the 1950’s.

The documentary has some great archival film stock, as well as interviews with some of the old racers themselves.
